SCOUT ADVENTURES

This scout experience is delivered by the centre instructors with pastoral support from camp staff. In practice this means that the instructors will lead all adventure sessions, looking after the group’s safety and teaching them new skills. The teacher’s role is to support their group – by letting the instructors take the lead, camp staff are able to get to know their pupils and provide individual help where needed. We’ve strived to achieve a balance between engaging pupils in challenging new adventures and providing a comfortable learning environment. For example, our activities are designed to enable a challenge by choice approach, allowing children to be stretched but not overwhelmed by tasks.

KIELDER FOREST – is a large man-made reservoir in Northumberland in North East England. It is the largest artificial lake in the United Kingdom by capacity of water and it is surrounded by Kielder Forest, there is over 60 on-site activities to choose from across our adventure centres. One of the truly great remote spots of northern England (we’re one of the best dark sky locations in the UK, offering magical stargazing) this is great place to get away from it all.

HAWKHIRST CENTRE – situated approximately 50 miles north west of Newcastle. A 70-acre site, located within 200 square miles of the Kielder Forest, it is surrounded on three sides by the vast expanse of Kielder Water. This makes the centre the perfect location for both water sports and land based adventurous activities. Learn to canoe, sail, build rafts and generally get wet and wild.

ROWAN LODGE – sleeps 51 people (2-5 en suite rooms). Specialist room for those with special needs. Teacher/group leader room. Drying room and comfortable lounge area.
